I have the great pleasure of attending the practice sessions of the Red Thistle Dancers Scottish Country Dance demonstration team.

Though not an official member (I'm more a seed than a full flowering thistle!) I do have the distinct pleasure of practicing and dancing with them. They perform in a variety of costumes and outfits depending on the occassion. One standard piece of kit that is part of the men's uniform are white hose. With the Games season starting up it was time to look at my wardrobe and make sure I had what was required to dance with the team. Now I do have a pair of rather thin inexpensive white hose that are left over from when I first started wearing highland attire. In all honesty I am not pleased with them and they just aren't "up to snuff". Now as someone who has advocated white hose as a perfectly reasonable option with highland attire over the years it was time to put my money where my mouth was.
One quick stop by the Celtic Shoppe in Campbell http://www.celticshoppe.com/
and I was set!
These are handknit natural colored wool ecru hose from Scotland (I believe Rocky at USA Kilts carries the same ones) and I have to say....
They are very nice!!!
here is a closer look at the pattern
I could make an excuse and say "well I had to buy them and only wear them because I'm working as a part of a group" but in truth that would be just a cop out (and plain silly). These are very nice hose made from thick naturally colored wool. The design is very raised/pronounced and looks just grand. At some point I think I need to go get a matching sweater. Did I mention they are thick? That translates into very cosy...and comfortable!
Adam Ant may have talked about Dirk wearing white socks...but here on XMTS I declare that....
Panache wears white hose!
Comments, criticisms, compliments and especially G&Ts are welcome...
Cheers
Jamie
