You have missed the point of the argument
Alan stated Scotland had been a single entity since 843
It has NOT due to the dates shown, if part was not annexed to the crown in those days it was not part of Scotland, the crown was Scotland .
Note also the crown was King of the Scots, not the Gaels, not the Shetlands. Even today there are Shetlanders and Gael who will quite vehemently state they are not Scots
