It is funny I was in a costco the other day in my black 19" kilt and as I was leaving a very heavy lady in a shortish skirt (was something she definately should not have been wearint) laughed at me. I am 5'9" tall and weigh about 165. So I believed I looked good in the kilt. Society?
One dumb girl sounds like. Good on ya for staying fit. To get cut and drop body fat percentages, try Insanity. I used it for month before a race and it stripped me DOWN. It is also great for core and agility. My cardio had never been fit like that before in my life, even when I was playing Ultimate Frisbee. If you want a full body muscle builder, I use P-90X. It really is awsome if you follow the program.
All the best,
Hugh

Re: Fitness Challenge!
My goal has been simply to get some exercise and be in better shape. Well I've lost 2" off my waist and 10-15lbs in the last year. I'm smaller so this is substantial. I'm going to try and keep working to shed another inch this winter, kilt straps be damned!

At age 39 had a massive brain-stem stroke, suppose to die, but a month later walked out of the hospital, three months later back to work for the next four years, then permanent disability. One effect is a quarter of throat still paralyzed, can't physically run or climb to this day.
Then three & half years ago I slipped on ice, body slammed to the ground and slid to the bottom of driveway. Year & half later couldn't move, fractured disc at T9 vertebra pressing against right sciatic nerve. Afects the nerve all the way down to big toe. Two years later this is a come and go thing after having 3 epidurals. Now lets add onto this side affects of 18 years of taking statins that now affects my lumbar on both sides making it impossible at times just to stand and get a glass of water at the sink. Can't even walk a quarter block without back locking up. To add to this a year ago this time I'd blackout at the gym pressing the slightest weight, doing crunchs, or my camera around the neck for more then 30 min.
But that's not all! I'm a strict T2 diabetic with heavy insulin resistance. I can't eat normal foods that have any carbs in it: no corn, potatoes, rice, bread, pasta, etc., and that includes wheat for some reason that most diabetics can have. I've been eating a 500-1100 calorie diet for the past two years and have gained a lot of weight. Was at 270 at beginning of August, now at 257 having dropped to eating one meal a day!
I really want to get back in a kilt, but wanna be down at 200 to look okay. But I don't think I can get down there. What does one cut, how does one exersise? Doc doesn't help, dieticitan doesn't help. I'm really at a loss!
I'm at a loss, here.
Honest truth... I'd find another doctor. You've got to do something, if your current won't can't/won't help, then it's time to look around.

Re: Fitness Challenge!
Anybody on Fitocracy? There are quite a few P90X and Insanity folks posting. Maybe should start an XMarks group there.

Re: Fitness Challenge!
I would love to shuck some body fat. I can swim a mile or more at a time, ride a century or walk forever. Ive done 2 1/2 ironmans, a marathon, 3 1/2 marathons. Would love to swim at the Y more but they make it next to impossible to get good lap swimming in because they close the lap lanes at opppertune times for programs, so when I can swim its 8-10 at night and very crowded.
I have a bike, but can't ride in winters due to cold induced asthma, same with running. Never been a fan of lifting. I can't afford Intensity or P90x workouts and have a problem with programs that are run as infomercials.
My diet is decent, but I rarely eat breakfast as I have an early lunch (11 am) and a late dinner.
I'm 5'11, 201 lbs. Would love to get to 190 and/or lower body fat percentage. I haven't weight 175 since 1st year university.
Suggestions?

I know how you feel about infomercials but speaking from experience I love those two programs. They are exactly what they claim to be and not one iota less. i put them off for a while until I researched it myself and saw what they really were.
I bought Insanity from a reputable ebay dealer and saved about $100 so maybe that's an option. It's the best body fat stripper and cardio builder I've ever used.
All the best with your goals,
Hugh

It's basically eating Lean proteins (ideally) grass fed meat, free range fowl and wild caught fish, seasonal fruits and vegetables and healthy fats such as nuts, seeds, avocado, olive oil, and coconut oil.
My Crossfit affiliate is doing a 60 diet challenge in which I am participating and I was wondering if anyone else had tried it or moved more towards it as a lifestyle.

Re: Fitness Challenge!
Sorry it has taken me so long to continue this thread. The main reason is, to my great shame, I have let myself go quite badly. I became ill, was lightly injured, and then moved to a new house and had no space to workout. Then, since I wasn't working out, I gave up on my nutrition plan. Four months later I now weigh more than I ever have in my life.
But in the spirit of "No Excuses" I'm back and getting ready for P-90X again! I am trying to do it with a friend this time and for the first time ever we have the same goal...loose weight! This is going to be very different for me as I have never had to focus on weight loss but rather on mass gaining and overall fitness because of my body type. Now the tables have turned and I begin a new journey.
In the spirit of renewal I have to ask, "Have you kept up with your goals?" If not then what are your goals now? How are you going to get there. Anybody up for a little hard work?
Wishing you all well,
Hugh
