You're very wise, Anne. I nearly destroyed my knees by running. Twenty years of very careful bicycling (cadence never outside the range 58-62) and always wearing 10-inch high neoprene braces when walking more than a mile a day finally got me past the need for the braces, but I'll never run again. Running was touted as inexpensive exercise by denying the cost of the injuries it caused.

    Good health and long life!

Well, just paid my entry fee for next years Deca Ironman UK, suppose I'd better get a bit of training done :-)
Any one fancy joining me ? there's a Deca, Quin, Triple, Double, Ironman and 100 mile run all starting from 1st of June 2012, geared up so we all finish on the same day, if your interested I'll post a link.

No thanks, brother. I readily admit that I am not nearly man enough for that one. All the best in your training. BRING IT, MAN!

    I forgot to report back!

My original goal was to lose he 10 lbs that I gained after spending 6 weeks in Manhattan on business last June, then lose another 10 by August 31. Well, I easily lost the first 10 lbs after the very first week back home (ahead of schedule), but the remaining 10 lbs has been a rollercoaster. It's not that I'm eating badly, I just need to trim the quantitiy to reduce my caloric intake. So, that's the renewed target.

Awesome! Sounds like you know exactly what to do. I know that sometimes the second part of a goal can be tough because we see what we have accomplished and think we are doing so good that we don't need to fous as hard. I get like that with my P-90X routine and my eating habits. Sounds like you are dedicated to breaking the cycle. Good luck and God bless!

    Re: Fitness Challenge!

Well folks, I had not been as motivated as I would like lately. "No worries" I told myself "Monday's the day I get back on track." Then my car got rear ended. I'm ok. Just a little whiplash and minor aches and pains but it's all in the neck and back so I'm out of commission for a little while longer.

    *sigh*

Keep up the good work while I recover. I'm looking forward to hearing more success stories soon!

    Good health,
    Hugh

    Re: Fitness Challenge!

Wow you guys, you all are such motivation! I lost 43 pounds for my first kilt twenty one years ago. Dropped from 233 down to 190. Wife thought I'd never make it and did so in 3 months. But things happen...

At age 39 had a massive brain-stem stroke, suppose to die, but a month later walked out of the hospital, three months later back to work for the next four years, then permanent disability. One effect is a quarter of throat still paralyzed, can't physically run or climb to this day.

Then three & half years ago I slipped on ice, body slammed to the ground and slid to the bottom of driveway. Year & half later couldn't move, fractured disc at T9 vertebra pressing against right sciatic nerve. Afects the nerve all the way down to big toe. Two years later this is a come and go thing after having 3 epidurals. Now lets add onto this side affects of 18 years of taking statins that now affects my lumbar on both sides making it impossible at times just to stand and get a glass of water at the sink. Can't even walk a quarter block without back locking up. To add to this a year ago this time I'd blackout at the gym pressing the slightest weight, doing crunchs, or my camera around the neck for more then 30 min.

But that's not all! I'm a strict T2 diabetic with heavy insulin resistance. I can't eat normal foods that have any carbs in it: no corn, potatoes, rice, bread, pasta, etc., and that includes wheat for some reason that most diabetics can have. I've been eating a 500-1100 calorie diet for the past two years and have gained a lot of weight. Was at 270 at beginning of August, now at 257 having dropped to eating one meal a day!

I really want to get back in a kilt, but wanna be down at 200 to look okay. But I don't think I can get down there. What does one cut, how does one exersise? Doc doesn't help, dieticitan doesn't help. I'm really at a loss!
